Denise Balcanoff

Hello, I am Denise, a Connecticut-based artist.

Hi! My name is Denise Balcanoff! I was born and raised in New York City, and developed a passion for art at a very young age. I attended the H.S. of Art & Design in Manhattan, and continued to study art at Buffalo State College, while also earning my teaching degree. Soon after, I moved to Bloomfield, CT, raised a family, and had a 33 year teaching career.

Now, I am enjoying my retirement! Yay! Drawing was always my 1st love until I discovered the playfulness of alcohol inks. I love their bright saturated colors and how they blossom when applied to yupo paper. Alcohol inks are a very forgiving medium and are easy to use to achieve beautiful results. I enjoy experimenting with them on different substrates and trying different techniques. When working with alcohol inks, I often feel a bit like a mad scientist, wondering what I'll create next!

To me art is love and can help heal the soul, and therefore, I love sharing it with others. When I'm not drawing or painting for my own enjoyment, I still enjoy teaching, but instead of working with the little ones, I share my passion with adult and young adult students. Through painting or drawing, I teach them to relax and release the stresses of the day!

You can see more of my art on my Facebook art page.

Love & Blessings~ Denise <3
